SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) _ Authorities say they've charged six Georgia residents and a Syracuse man with running a counterfeit check scheme that netted them hundreds of thousands of dollars from banks in two central New York counties.
Police in the Syracuse area tell local media outlets that they found a laptop computer, printer and blank checks the suspects used to make counterfeits at the suburban hotel where the men stayed for nearly a month before being arrested this week.
Four men and one woman, all in their 20s, are charged with criminal possession of a forged instrument. They're being held in the Onondaga County jail. A 24-year-old Syracuse man was also arrested.
Police say they believe the suspects had been passing bad checks for weeks in Onondaga and neighboring Oswego County.
