Boar Hunting Banned In NY

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) _ New York apparently isn't open for business when it comes to boar hunting.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed a bill on Tuesday that outlaws hunting Eurasian boars, now done in about 20 commercial hunting facilities statewide.

The new law prohibits hunting, importing, breeding and the releasing the boars, which can weigh up to 300 pounds into the wild. By 2015, possession of a Eurasian boar will be a crime.

The Creekside Outdoors in Chautauqua County is one of the facilities that offers the so-called canned hunts.

One of the owners, Pete Smith, told The Buffalo News that the law will likely close down their business.

Cuomo is pushing his ``New York Open for Business'' campaign to revive the state's economy.
