Carncross Arrested On Animal Cruelty Charges

A Lafayette man, convicted nearly eight years ago in the death of a state trooper has been arrested again and has now been charged with felony aggravated animal cruelty.

State Police say 29 year old James Carncross is accused of beating a three year old Dachshund to death at his home last week. He's been sent to jail pending the outcome of a parole review.

Carncross was just paroled in January after serving time in state prison following a high speed chase in 2006 that resulted in the death of State Trooper Craig Todeschini.

The chase occurred in April of 2006 after Todeschini tried to pull Carncross over in the Town of Pompey. During the chase, the trooper lost control of his SUV and crashed into a tree on Route 91.

A jury convicted Carncross of Criminally Negligent Homicide and Reckless Driving. He was sentenced to serve seven years in state prison. He became eligible for parole last summer.
