Cornell Suspends Entire Men's Lax Team

Cornell University say they have suspended their entire men's lacrosse team over a hazing incident.

Officials say the team learned of the action September 13. The alleged incident was prior to that and involved "coerced consumption of alcohol involving underage freshman." Under a suspension, the team can practice, but not participate in exhibitions. The suspensions were from the school and not the NCAA.

Both athletic director Andy Noel and Susan Murphy, VP for Student and Academic Services issued statements that were direct and blunt. Noel says, "Hazing practices are harmful and antithetical to our values as a university and our commitment to student-athletes." Murphy's statement included, "Work on this campus has focused on the empowerment of students in particular to refuse to promote or participate in demeaning or dangerous acts, and to intervene when they are aware of it occurring to others. Hazing must stop now."
