Deputy Attacked With Baseball Bat

A Salina man has been arrested after police say he attacked an Onondaga County Sheriff's Deputy with a baseball bat in a dispute over his overgrown lawn On Tuesday.

The deputy and town code enforcement officers were called to the home of 50 year old Gregory Rowe on Garden Drive in Mattydale. Contractors were hired to mow Rowe's overgrown lawn because it was in violation of town codes.

Police say Rowe became irate when they started mowing his lawn and he attacked the deputy with an aluminum baseball bat, striking the deputy in the forearm. The deputy then pepper sprayed Rowe and was able to wrestle him to the ground without any further injuries.

The deputy and Rowe were both checked out by medical personnel. Rowe refused any medical attention and the deputy went to the emergency room for treatment of injures to his forearm.

Rowe was arraigned in Town of Salina Court and he's been charged with Attempted Aggravated Assault Upon a Police Officer, which is a felony. He's also been charged with four misdemeanors in the case.

The Sheriffs Department has not released the name of the deputy who was injured in the attack.
