Onondaga County Sheriff Kevin E. Walsh reports that the operator of the vehicle that struck a Liverpool man on Saturday was arrested this afternoon.
Early Saturday morning at approximately 12:18 am, Sheriff’s deputies responded to a car/pedestrian accident in front of 7898 Oswego Road, where Joseph Roderka, of 4108 Mesa Lane, was struck by a Honda Civic, operated by Dante Altieri, of 4045 Marlton Circle.
Deputies investigating the accident report that Joseph Roderka and his daughter Nichole Roderka of Mesa Lane, were walking south on Oswego Road when he was struck by Altieri, who was also traveling south on Oswego Road. Unsure what he struck, Altieri drove home to inform his parents that he hit something with thecar.
As Altieri and his parents drove back to the scene they were stopped by State Police and Sheriff’s Deputiesin the 7500 block of Oswego Road.
Rescue crews responded to the scene and Roderka was transported to Upstate University Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Roderka’s daughter was not injured.
Altieri was arrested by Criminal Investigations Division Detectives this afternoon for the charges of Leaving the Scene of a Fatal Accident and Driving across Hazard Markings. Altieri was arraigned in the Town of Clay court today at 2:49pm and released.
Accident Investigators are continuing their investigation.
