Lockheed Unveils Long-Range Radar Built At Salina Campus

A long-range air surveillance radar that's seen as a key to the future of Lockheed Martin in the Syracuse area made its debut at the nation's biggest gathering of Air Force brass.

Lockheed unveiled the Three-Dimensional Expeditionary Long-Range Radar - better known as Three Dealer - which was conceived, engineered and built at Lockheed's Electronics Park campus in Salina. Lockheed is awaiting the Air Force's decision to award a potential $1.3 billion contract to one of the three companies in competition to build this long-range radar. Besides Lockheed are defense giants Northrup Grumman and Raytheon, who has become a local competitor by teaming with Saab Sensis in Dewitt. The decision is expected by the second quarter of 2014.
