Miner: Syracuse Finance Problems Beyond City's Ability To Fix

Syracuse mayor Stephanie Miner told a state senate committee that the city's finances are better than most in the state, but it still faces a financial crisis beyond the city's abilities to fix.

Miner told a Senate committee hearing on what they called "fiscally distressed municipalities" that the city has been very well managed fiscally. But Miner added, in her words, "as a leader and mayor of this city, I recognize this problem has come." Miner showed the committee financial projections that suggest Syracuse will use up its savings and find itself in more difficult circumstances in two years. The hearing was attended by both Senators John DeFrancisco and Dave Valesky. Similar hearings will be held in Buffalo and Nassau counties.
