Syracuse Gang Leader Pleads Guilty To Racketeering Charges

A leader of a one-time prominent Syracuse gang involved in the murder of a star athlete has pleaded guilty to federal racketeering charges.

Authorities say Habakkuk Nickens admitted his role as one of two leaders of the V-NOT gang, including his part in the 2010 shooting death of Kihary Blue. Nickens drove the vehicle that carried shooter Kihari Smith, who shot and killed Blue. Blue wasn't a gang member, but was with other member of the rival Bricktown gang. Blue's death resulted in the shooting two days later of 20 month-old Rashad Walker Jr. Nickens faces up to life in prison and a $250,000 fine. He will be sentenced January 14.
