Syracuse Traffic Stop Turns Into Arrests, Handgun Recovery

Syracuse police report they turned a traffic stop into arrests and the recovery of a loaded handgun.

Officers say they observed a vehicle on Oakwood Drive with inadequate tail lights. Instead of pulling over, the vehicle sped off, but stopped after a few blocks when pursued by officers. All four passengers then fled on foot. Officers on scene apprehended two teenaged males. The 16-year-old driver and a 17-year-old passenger, both from Syracuse were taken into custody, and a loaded .22 caliber semi-automatic handgun was found in the vehicle and secured. Both were charged with multiple felonies including criminal possession of a weapon. They were taken to the Justice Center to await arraignment.
