Top Court Upholds Murder Conviction Of Clay Man

The state's highest court upheld the murder conviction of a Clay man for killing the son of an ex-girlfriend.

Jay Barboni was convicted in August 2009 for second degree murder and first degree manslaughter. He was charged with beating to death 15-month-old Nicholas Gage Taylor a year earlier in a Fulton Apartment. The Court of Appeals said Barboni's state of mind, in their words, was one of "utter disregard for human life." The court also found evidence to support conviction for depraved indifference to human life.\

Barboni is currently serving concurrent sentences of 25 years to life for the murder charge and 20 to life for the manslaughter charge.
