Trucker Faces Charges In Deadly Crash

The Pennsylvania truck driver involved in a chain-reaction crash that killed six people on a northern New York road last summer has been charged with reckless driving.

45-year-old James A. Mills Jr. of Myerstown, Pa., pleaded not guilty to the charge Tuesday night in Antwerp Town Court. He also pleaded not guilty to several traffic infractions.

State police say Mills' inattention caused his tractor-trailer to slam into a line of vehicles stopping for a road paving project in the rural Jefferson County town last July 19.

A woman, her two daughters, the woman's mother-in-law and a teenage friend of the daughters killed, along with a 59-year-old woman driving another vehicle.

A state transportation department employee in another vehicle was injured.
